Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician for our well established Traffic Division in our Public Works Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St.
Augustine, Florida.

Johns County Traffic Division is responsible for the maintenance of St.
Johns County traffic signals, street lights and street signs.
Employees work cooperatively as part of crews to complete work in a safe and effective manner.

The goal at Traffic is to provide a safe and efficient transportation system to ensure the mobility of people, goods and services in St.
Johns County.
The newly selected Traffic Signal Technician will work independently and as a member of a Traffic Signal crew to complete the work necessary to maintain St.
Johns County’s traffic signal and street lights.
Examples of Duties: The ideal Traffic Signal Technician candidate must possess St.
Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a team environment.
Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: * Inspects traffic signal devices at regular intervals.
* Responds to device malfunctions and makes repairs.
* Repairs electronic communication devices to maintain connections between local control systems and central monitoring location.
* Programs, installs and maintains networking systems.
* Provides input on new system design and installation.
* Plans traffic signal installation, repair and maintenance projects; orders parts and supplies; schedules assistance from other workers; schedules traffic control as needed.
* Inspects the work of contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
* Tests a variety of equipment.
* Programs, constructs, repairs and inspects school and other traffic beacon systems.
* Repairs Variable Message Signs as needed.
* Maintains parts and supply inventory.
* Uploads and maintains controller database.
* Completes required reports; maintains documentation related to signal design, operation, programming, preventative maintenance, and test reports.
* Responds to after-hours emergencies.
Typical Qualifications: Candidates for the Traffic Signal Technician position are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
* Possession of or ability to readily obtain IMSA Signal Technician Certification Level 1 within two (2) years from date of hire.
* Possession of or ability to readily obtain Maintenance of Traffic – Intermediate Certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
* Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
* Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
* Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
* Must be able to operate a computer.
