It is the Lead Historyteller’s job to bring the St Augustine’s 1908 history to life in a respectful, accurate, and engaging way while keeping to the company’s mission to be _The Nation’s Storyteller_ ®.
As a Lead Historyteller, you will assist the Museum and Productions Manager in supervising the acting staff.

* Ability to learn stage direction and memorize historical details provided in scripted story and relay scripted story in an entertaining manner.
* Ability to successfully portray historical characters in front of an audience according to script and stage directions, as well as improvising, if the situation arises.
* Ability to be heard in a loud, audible voice without amplification by an audience up to 65 persons.
* Ability to give the scripted story in the time allowed.
* Ability to work safely while wearing a themed costume.
* Ability to identify, gather and analyze information, exhibit sound and accurate judgment and make timely decisions.
* Mental attitude required to handle the stress that goes with this job as described.
* Ability to read, write and speak clear English in order to communicate with co-workers and the general public.
* Ability to learn new duties, policies and procedures and adjust to new situations encountered on the job within a reasonable amount of time.
* Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a week or longer as deadlines dictate for a full-time status, part-time CASTmembers are to be available as needed.
* Ability to work weekends and holidays.
* Ability to use equipment or materials as specified in this job description.
* Should have proven, sustained record of high-quality work.
* Must have good grooming and hygiene skills.
* Recognize that Commitment, Attitude, Sincerity and Trust (the characteristics of a CASTmember) are lifelong habits that must be present on a daily basis.
*Essential Functions * * Assist the Manager to achieve goals as assigned, including, but is not limited to, train, re-train, and motivate staff, prepare weekly schedules, revise scripts, and review/evaluate historyteller’s performance.
* Present historically accurate information in an entertaining manner in costume, both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, several times a work shift, in a loud, audible voice without amplification for an audience up to 65 persons.
* Portray costumed historical characters, either based upon real persons or composites of real persons to teach or interpret local history.
* Study and rehearse roles from scripts in order to interpret, learn and memorize lines and cues as directed.
* Learn about characters in scripts and their relationships to each other to order to develop role interpretations.
* Capability to fill the role for multiple historical characters, and switch roles with ease when required during a work shift.
* Use props as directed.
* Must remain on show schedule when performing.
* Assist with guest check-in when required.
* Provide answers to guest questions while staying in character when possible.
* Serve as a calming influence when delays occur.
* Serve as Manager-on-Duty as needed, which includes, but not limited to, assist with opening procedures; ensure that roles are properly filled, tours are sent out on time and performances run on time; operate show controller and other technical elements; assist with checking in and out of costumes when dry cleaner is picking up or delivering costumes; and assist with closing procedures.
* Abide by all HTA policies, procedures and programs.
* Abide by all safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of guest and CAST.
* Requires on-your-feet routine physical activity, including climbing stairs.
* Regular attendance and punctuality in costume are required.
*Qualifications* * High school graduate or equivalent preferred * Prior performance or interpretation experience is a must (3-4 years experience preferred) * Strong interest in St Augustine history is desirable.
